Fraudulent use of a bankcard over Internet
Your bankcard number may be stolen when you buy something online, for example.
A computer pirate (hacker) or a malicious person will find out your bank account details without you being aware of it.
-
Check your bank accounts regularly and carefully on your bank's official site or when you receive your statement.
This is the only way to become aware of a fraudulent use of your bankcard.
-
It is essential to stop payment on all your means of payment with your bank, so that the frauds cannot be repeated.
To do that, please refer to the conditions for stopping payment after your bankcard has been lost or stolen.
-
If your account details have been used without your consent to buy things remotely (online), you must dispute this payment with your bank as soon as possible.
IN PRACTICE:
- Send a letter to your bank, in which you dispute the fraudulent payment.
- You may file a complaint with your bank within a period of 70 days (statutory period) from the date of the disputed transaction.
The time allowed for filing complaints may be extended contractually but may not exceed 120 days from the date of the disputed transaction.
- In principle, the bank will reimburse you for the charges related to the fraud after reception of the letter disputing the transaction.
- You are protected when the card number is a virtual number that your bank has sent you for a single purchase («e-bankcard»).
We recommend to lodge a complaint.
